Grandma's Rose

The week before I made this mask, I made a bunch of flowers for my etsy shop( and for an upcoming boutique). Part of the reason I made so many was so I could write out the pattern for them, so far I have the pattern for the small and medium I am still working on the large ones, but once I have it figured out I will be posting the pattern.

 My grandmother LOVED rose's every garden she had always had roses all different kinds and colors.

Every time I see a rose I am reminded of her, when I stood back to look and my sea of roses a thought came to mind "grandma would love these!" so it's only fitting that I call them Grandma's Rose.

Mardi Gras Bird Mask

I'm sorry I've been MIA this week I have been busy work on this mardi gras bird mask for my niece!

About a week or so ago my sister emailed me and asked if I could make this mask for her youngest for a Halloween costume, of course I said sure no problem HA! I had no idea what I was getting myself into!!!

I did the easiest part of the mask first the feathers! The mask itself was a pain in my BUM and I'll tell ya why cause it was an adult pattern and it needed to fit my 6 yr old niece! So I had to figure out how to make decrease it to make it fit On top of having to adjust the pattern I also had to deal with the color of the mask, see my niece Cort wanted it in silver and pink which I thought would be fine cause this time of year you can usually find crochet thread in silver, well I was WRONG!! I found it in size 5 & 3 but not 10 which of course was the size I needed soooooo I was SOL.... or was I!?

I came up with a solution I went ahead and used white for the mask and the large feathers:

I remember I had some metallic silver acrylic paint, so I pulled it out added some to a container of HOT water till I got the color I wanted:

Then I added the mask and feathers made sure they were completely covered & let them soak for a few hrs:

Took them out & lightly dabbed them then let them dry, once dry I soaked them again cause I wanted it a little darker.

There were some area's that got a little darker than others but I knew the feathers would cover it so I didn't worry.  Once done I starched the crap outta the mask and feathers and glued it together! In the end I got the result I wanted!

Cort wanted it to have glitter on it and boy did I put glitter on it, like the whole dang can of glitter this sucker is GLITTERFIED!!!!


The pictures don't really do it justice I really tried to get a good picture showing it in all it's glitter glory BUT every time I put in in direct sun light the sun would glare off of it, I will keep tryin at least before I send it to TURKEY yup that's right this baby is goin to Turkey so I really only have till Monday to try and get a good glittery picture!

I am the best SISTER and AUNT EVER if I do say so myself!! I really love how it turned out and now that I have adjusted the pattern I can easily make another one, that doesn't mean I will it just means I can HA!!

Fall Wreath well sort of!

My neighbor of 4 yrs moved yesterday she's gonna be missed she has been a great "grandma" to my kids, and a great friend to me. She gave me a ton of stuff including this crate full of well she couldn't remember, she thought it was wicker for repairing wicker chairs, it was her husbands so she really had no clue, I took it anyway thinking I could do something with it!

There is a TON of it in different widths, I thought some of it would make a really cool rustic lookin fall wreath, I had some burlap on hand so last night I created this.

 It isn't super big or thick but I like that about it, I like all the different lengths reeds that came loose I think it adds character.

I like the dark brown and light brown burlap together and the orange sprigs add just enough color, I really love how it turned out.

Crochet Flowers Headband

Yesterday was picture day at the kids school, normally I am on top of things and I have out fits, accessories & hair styles  planned weeks in advance. But this time I completely forgot till the night before, luckily my mom just sent the kids new clothes but my daughter quickly realized she didn't have a hair accessory to match so being the awesome mom I am I stayed up half the night to make this;

I used #3 crochet thread in white to do the flowers then I sc around 2 of them with #10 variegated purple crochet thread added some f aux pearl beads and called them good. Crocheting the 3 big flowers was the easy part!

Ok so the only headband I had was pink and that wasn't gonna work, so I had this brilliant idea that I would wrap crochet thread around the headband I mean really how hard can it be!? Yeah let me just say this NEVER AGAIN!!!

This process took FOREVER (said like the kid in The Sandlot)!!!! Seriously it took me an hr just to cover the stupid lovely headband, when I got half way around I decided the half that was gonna have the flower's didn't need to be super pretty so I through the perfect technique out the window and wrapped as quickly as my hands could wrap. Once that task was done I hot glued the flowers onto some felt and added them to the headband, I was really happy with the results and so was Ryne she thrilled!!

Now to wait and see how school pics turned out!

Gypsy Cotume Part II

I googled gypsy head wraps and found these ones but no way would I pay $28 for one and I kinda had my mind set on a crocheted one so I googled gypsy head wrap crochet patterns and found this one.  Instead of using worsted weight yarn I used size 3 crochet thread in yellow and white and a G hook instead of an H.

 

It worked out perfectly just the right size for my soon to be Gypsy and in true Ellie fashion Ellie was harder then ever to photograph.

She held still long enough for me to get a good side shot of the ties and stuff.

 After lot's of yelling calm talking I bribed her with a fruit roll up she turned and I snapped the shot this is her "uh did you say fruit roll up!?" pose. Please excuse the dirty face she had been eating strawberries just minutes before our little photo session and honestly I didn't want to risk makin her mad by washin her face, I had a hard enough time as it was.

The head scarf worked up super easy and ya can't beat FREE, the crochet thread was some I had on hand that was given to me and the pattern was FREE so score. So far the total cost of the gypsy costume is $1.49. 

Next up will be jewelry I will be raiding my jewelry boxes I know I have some gold hoops that would be perfect!
