Candy Corn!

Let's talk candy corn, as a kid I LOVED it I could never get enough, but now as an adult I can't stand the stuff, but what better way to ring in Fall/Halloween then with candy corn.

So I came up with this candy corn bunting, I really like the look of it.

I love the rich green against the ecru, both colors really pop!

I just love Fall!

I just LOVE fall that's why I got married in November I love all the gorgeous colors. So I picked some of my fav fall colors and came up with this Fall Pennant Banner I am in L.O.V. E it makes me wish we were seeing cooler temps but alas this week was hotter than last OY!

Again I used this pattern for the banner ( same on as the Halloween banner).
I used corduroy and felt for the letters and leaves, I love the different textures it makes the banner more visually interesting. I honestly wasn't sure how it was gonna turn out when I started it I was shootin from the hip I added the leaves as an after thought and I don't think it would have been the same without them.

Ok so there ya have it my crocheted Fall Pennant Banner.

Pennant Banner

So even though it's officially Fall we are still experiencing 100 + temps here in Arizona, it's makin it hard to get in the mood to decorate for fall or to even think about Halloween. I have a boutique coming up in October so I figured I should get on the ball and do some fall/halloween stuff, so last weekend in between my son cuttin the side of his face, my cousin coming over and all my other duties I made this crocheted Halloween banner;

I got the pattern for the crochet pennant bunting pattern over at Sarahndipities blog, I just love her blog and all of her wonderful crocheted items, she has an awesome etsy shop too.  I have seen many Halloween banners around the blogosphere but none of them crocheted so when I came across the crocheted bunting pattern I new I could make one unique banner.

So first thing first I used black red heart yarn to make the banner, then I slip stitched each triangle creating a border.

Instead of embroidering the letters on by hand I decided to use some felt I had on hand a cut out some letters. So I picked out a font I wanted enlarged it to about 2 inchs I cut them out and pinned them to the felt and carefully cut them out again.

Once all the letters were cut out of the felt I pinned them onto each triangle like so;

Then I used heavy black thread to sew around each letter with my sewing machine. Then I ironed each triangle by putting a towel over them and using steam DO NOT put iron on directly on the yarn and always keep in moving. That's it, it turned out wonderful and I even got a "wow that's cool, I like it" from my hubby which is epic cause the usual response is "yeah it's nice", I am going to work on a fall and Christmas ones as well and I will have them available in my etsy shop made to order.

Strawberry quilts and a tip

I got my girls quilts tied a couple of weeks ago I just haven't had a chance to post about it. I mentioned before a friend of the family Merlene gave me 2 Strawberry Shortcake quilt tops;
My mom and I bordered it with red gingham and backed it with a fun flannel piece my mom had on hand.
While I was visiting my moms I went to a church quilting activity and learned and new way to mark a quilt so I thought I would share, it's a great and fairly easy too.
So what ya do is after your quilt is on the frame, you a ruler(yard stick, measuring tape) measure and mark every 4 inch on all 4 side of the quilt with pins. This next part is easier with another person, take some string (I used crochet thread) have one person stand at the top of the quilt and the one at the bottom, tie the string to one of the pins throw the string to the other person and have them wrap it around 2 pins on the other side, you'll toss it back and forth till your done with the length. Then you repeat that the width of the quilt, so in the end you should have a grid, of 4X4inch squares.
Once your grid is done you can start tying by eyeballing the center of each square.
My girls L.O.V.E their new quilts, and they look so cute on their bunk beds! I hope I explained the grid markin right if you have any questions feel free to email me.
