Teacher Gifts

My kids last day of school is tomorrow, I really wanted to do something for their teachers and for my sons aide who has been fantastic with him. Well things got away from me and I didn't do anything until today, I got on pinterest and picked out a couple ideas that were simple and easy. I have to say I LOVE free printables!

The first one I started on was for Kaleb's kindergarten teacher, I wanted to do something bright and fun that she could hang in her classroom, I found THIS free subway art printable and new exactly what I wanted to do. I liked her idea of using the clip board but I wanted to add to it so I painted the clip board red (well at least the parts your gonna see)

 I printed the subway art on photo paper and then modge podged it onto the board. Once it was on all smooth I put a top coat of modge podge on it.

 While that dried I moved onto the one for Ryne's teacher, I found THIS printable and got a few ideas. First thing first I found an old frame sanded it then painted it black (sorry no pics of the next few steps) then I ruffed it up a little exposing the white a little.

While the black frame dried I found another printable HERE. I edited it so it had Kaleb's name, printed it out and glued it to a stick. I had my hubby pick up some little flowers at the 99 cent store, my son and I added them to this pot thingy I had, put on some ribbon that my son picked out (blue is his aides favorite color), I added an extra blue ribbon to the printable and stuck it in the dirt and there ya have it a cute gift for his aide.

1 down 2 to go! Next I went back to the clip board and added the final touches a couple of crocheted apples, a couple of pencils with a cute rainbow ribbon bow, erasers and a big yellow star button. I think it turned out cute! Kaleb was very proud and said his teacher is going to love it!

1 left! I put the printable (that I printed on photo paper) into the frame added some red rick rack to make the printable pop and some crocheted apples and that's it! Ryne wanted green apples cause her teachers name is Ms. Green and her favorite color is green, she helped me place them on the frame.

 So there ya have it our end of the year teacher gifts.The nice thing is I used things I already had the total cost of all 3 was $4, $1 for a package of 6 erasers and $1 each for the flowers. The kids are pleased Ryne said with delight "You are the coolest mom EVER you make the COOOOOOOOLEST things!!!" I hope the teachers are just as happy!

Name Change

I am looking into changing my Etsy Shop name do to another person having a similar name and people not being able to find me. I have narrowed my choices down to 3 so I am having people vote so see which one is there fave. Here's a little back ground on my choices, my grandparents built a cabin in the Ogden Canyon in Utah, we use to spend our summers up there, tubing down the river, hiking, playing horseshoes, and many more awesome things, it was such a wonderful place. The grand-kids and great grand-kids had dubbed it "The Tree House", it's no longer in the family but I wanted to keep the memory of it alive, so I thought I would use "The Tree House" for my shop name but someone else already has that name, so I thought of a couple of words that describe the cabin as I saw it as a kid and how I see it now here are the 3 choices I narrowed it down too;

The Charming Tree House
The Humble Tree House
The Magical Tree House

This is the front of the cabin.The bricks that were used were from an old blind school that had been demolished my grandpa asked what they were going to do with the bricks, they told him he could take whatever he wanted, so my grandpa, grandma, mom and aunt spent a summer hauling the bricks from the old school up to the canyon.
 The back of the cabin and where most of the fun happened.
 Grandma's garden and winding stair case. The land that all this was built on was once a swamp.
 Fire pit, and horse shoe pit. Many nights were spent around the fire pit singing, laughing, and roasting marshmallows. Horse shoes was one of my Grandpa's favorite games.
View of the river we use to go tubing down, also the place I learned to fish.
The rope swing we use to swing off of and drop into the "fishing hole" below. The fishing whole was the deepest part of the river near the cabin, and it was one of the best places to fish.

Voting poles are now open! I really need some help I am totally stuck on this one!

Christmas Outfits

So glad Christmas is over and done with! I have been doin nothin but sewing the last 2 weeks here's some of what I have been up to:

All you see here was made by yours truly (except the white dress shirt). Here's some close ups.

 I used the same pattern for the girls dresses, but I wanted to still make them look somewhat different so for Ellie's dress I added a sleeve with a flounce and ribbon to the rosettes.

I wanted Ryne's to look a little more sophisticated, more "grown up", so I did the straight lace sleeve from the pattern, but stead of adding trim I used the scallop that was already on the lace. I also added pearls to the center of the rosettes to bring it all together.

I did a royal blue velvet vest, pin stripe pants and bow tie for my son. I didn't have a pattern for the pants so I took a pair of his that I new fit pretty good except the length and used it as a pattern, just added about 2 inchs of length.

I was very pleased how they turned out, they all got many compliments on their outfits. I think the best part was that I only spent around $2 on a zipper for Ellie's dress, all the fabric was given to me over the years.

I apologize for the pictures they were taken after church on Sunday, all my kids could think about was getting in the house and opening the rest of their presents! I will try and get better ones and update this later.

A troll

My oldest daughter wants to be a troll for Halloween, to be specific she wanted to be the "mean,ugly,stinky troll"from Earnest Scared stupid, yup that's right she wanted to be this:

(image souce)

I was talking to a friend about it and she suggested doing something more a long the lines of this;

(image source)

I thought "dang why didn't I think of that!?", I wasn't sure if Ryne would go for it I talked to her about it and she wasn't sure sooooo I googled it! I love Google, I pulled up TONS of images she was totally thrilled I was jumping for joy inside I mean if my daughter is gonna be a troll at least she can be a cute, friendly non-stinky one! So she decided she wants to be a 1950's troll.

I happened to have a poodle skirt pattern so I just needed to get some felt and it just so happens that Joann's is having a sale right now there felt is $2.99 yd instead of $4.99 SCORE!! So Saturday Ryne and I went to Joann's and got her fabric she chose a dark purple, once home I went to work.

The skirt was super duper easy to throw together, the pattern had a choice of a poodle, guitar with notes, cat,or Schnauzer to go on the front of the skirt I knew what Ryne was gonna choose before I even asked her! She chose the cat in case you were wonderin, so I cut out the cat out of some fuchsia felt scraps I had on hand. In the picture that cat was all sparkly do to the sequins that were glued on it, so of course she wanted it to be sparkly but since I didn't have the time, resources or patience to do sequins I used some spray glitter left over from this project, I used some beaded trim for the collar, and blue oval gems I had on hand for the eyes.

We went to Goodwill and found a couple of button up collared shirts for $1.98 for both of them SCORE again! They are a little big but it won't take much  to alter them to fit her, there's a light purple (pictured) one and a fuchsia one I wasn't sure which on we would like with the skirt so we just got both. And luckily we had a full slip from her Alice and Wonderland costume from last year, so I didn't need to make one, although I think I might add another layer to it and make it just a little fuller.

I have a plan for her hair and it's gonna look totally AWESOME, she is thrilled with her outfit and so am I especially since we only spent around $6! Two costumes down one to go, so far I have spent around $8 for both the girls costumes. Kaleb is still undecided so as soon as I know what he's gonna be I will get started!
