Vase Makeover

I had this lime green vase that a friend of mine gave me a few years ago

It use to be in my daughter's room but she decided she didn't want it anymore, so it's been sitting in a closet. 

When I was cleaning my sewing room and sorting through all my yarn I had a ton of small left over balls of yarn that had no home, so I pulled out the vase put on a couple of coats of Krylon Bright Idea Yellow paint:

And now those small balls of yarn have a home.I think it turned out nice, my daughter didn't even recognize it as the green vase that was in her room!

Week happenings

I apologize for the lack of posts I actually have tons of finished projects to post but my BIL is comin on friday and the guest/sewing room looks like this:

Yeah I know HOLY COW it's needs lots of lovin this week so that's what I will be doin, I will try and squeeze in some posts I got the girls quilts done, I have made some fabulous aprons, and I painted my desk so I will be posting about all that awesome goodness soon so don't give up on me!

Crocheted Hand Towel Tutorial

Say that 3 times fast crocheted hand towel tutorial, crocheted hand towel tutorial, crocheted hand towel tutorial, sheesh what a mouth full. I know this has been a long time coming and I apologize for taking so long but here it is the tutorial for the crocheted hand towel.

Supplies needed:

Hand towel(s) *The Dollar Store usually has some super cute ones*
 4- ply worsted weight Yarn * I like to use the Peaches & Cream yarn for these but any worsted weight yarn will work *
size G crochet hook
ribbon (optional)
sewing machine or serger
button
needle
thread
*Note- 1 15" x 25" hand towel will make 2 crocheted hand towels.


Step 1- Cut your towel(s) in half

Step 2- Serge or if using a sewing machine zig zag stitch across raw edge of towel

Step 3- With G hook and yarn follow this crochet pattern:

Abbreviated terms:
single crochet-sc
double crochet-dc
skip-sk
chain-ch

Row 1: Using your G hook push through the towel and evenly space 46 sc  under serged edge of towel ch 2 turn:

Row 2:  dc in each stitch across, ch 2 turn.( 46 dc)
*Here is were you will want to add your ribbon to your towel.*
 * 1st you'll pin your ribbon on the towel just below the single crochet covering up the stiches. I put the ribbon on the top and bottom of the towel. I sewed across the bottom of the ribbon first then went across the top of the ribbon that way it doesn't slide while sewing over the yarn.

After the ribbon is on continue crochet pattern.
Row 3-6: dc sk next dc, dc in next dc. Ch 2 turn.(24dc, 13dc, 8dc, 6dc)
Row 4-15: dc in each stitch across (6dc)
Row 16: dc in first 3 dc's ch 1 dc in next 3 dc's. ch 1 turn (6dc, 1 ch 1 space)
Row 17: sc across fasten off and weave in ends.(7sc)

Step 4 - Sew your button in the middle of Row 4 creating your loop to hand the towel.

TADA there ya have it a totally cool at your fingertips crocheted hand towel(s)!

Fairy Dress

So a couple years ago when my daughter started pre-school we were pretty strapped for cash and couldn't really buy her new clothes, so I would let her go through my patterns and material and I would make her clothes. This year wasn't any different while we were in Idaho my mom took her to the fabric store and let her pick out some new fabrics. I didn't think I would be able to make her a new outfit for the first day cause I have been so busy with other stuff, she was little disappointed and I didn't want to disappoint her so I made her this little dress on Monday out of her favorite fabric.

 I cheated with this flower and used bias tape instead of making my own with the same fabric as the dress. I really like the contrast of the blues against the pink, it also brings out the blue in the fairies wings.

 I trimmed the sleeves, neck and bottom of the skirt in pink rick rack, it really finishes off the dress.

I love the fullness of this dress and so does Ryne it's great for spinning!

Cutsey Girly Apron

Here's a peek at one of the styles of aprons I've been working on, I found the pattern for this 4 corner apron when I was going through my stash, it was super easy to put together. This size is 18months- 3yrs, it seems to be just the right size for my little Ellie and she absolutely loves it!

 I screwed up and cut the contrasting fabric (the yellow) too small for the back so I ended up making it double sided.

 

 So that makes it doubly cute!

 

 So there's a peek at what's coming to my etsy shop. I'm working on other sizes and styles as well, more of those to come later. 

Changes

I have been busy cutting, sewing, and crocheting over the last week, hence the lack of posts. I have a bunch new things to add to my etsy shop. I am also working on the tutorial for the crocheted hand towel, I know what you are thinking IT'S ABOUT FREAGIN TIME and you would be right it is! I have made 8 new towels and in the process took pics, now I just need to edit them and right down the pattern I use, I am hoping to have it posted by Monday but no promises as things are crazy at the moment.

I have been crankin out the aprons like there's no tomorrow, my kids are a little jealous! My son looked at all the cute girly aprons with disgust and told me I needed to make boys ones "ya know with trains, and robots on them, ya know boy stuff!", sad thing is I was so focused on girly ruffles and bows that I hadn't even thought of boy aprons! I am hoping to remedy that soon, but my kids start school next Wednesday and my oldest is requesting I make her a first day of school outfit, she wants to stand out and be unique on her first day and apparently mom's sewing say's "look at me I stand out. I'm unique!" So guess what I will be working on this weekend.

Later this month I am having a photo shoot of some of the items from my shop I am so excited! I also had a baby photography contact me and ask if she could use some of my items for a photo shoot coming up, basically she get's the items and I get copies of the pictures she takes. I am stoked I think it will be a great thing for my etsy shop!

Also in the works is my sewing room, I finally got my son moved over to his new room. I ripped out the old nasty carpet, and am on the hunt for new carpet. Our house is one of those manufactured homes so it has these unsightly seems in all the rooms, my plan is to take all the strips off and fill in the seams then paint. It's definitely going to take a lot of sweat, but I have a clean slate to work with which is really exciting! I may be asking for input for colors I just can decide what to do in there, I want something clean, airy, relaxing but happy. I'm leaning towards yellow and aqua, or yellow and lavender but I just can't decide my hubby says I am being finicky!

Ok so I have lot's of projects in the works, and the above mentioned projects are only the tip of the iceberg but since I don't want to overwhelm myself you my fellow readers I will wait to list the rest till some of these projects are finished! And if my posts get few and far between, well you can imagine why they would be, but I am excited to share all the fun and exciting changes, so be patient with me.
